Today we are checking out another smartwatch running a full version of Android – Kospet Prime. You can find this watch for just under $150 at Gearbest.
After trying a bunch of these watches running a full version of Android I have to say that Kospet Prime is one of the better ones. Most of that has to do with the battery life.
With this watch, we have a 1260mAh battery. On one charge you can finally make it through an entire day and actually get to the second day. All that on one charge. Something that doesn’t usually happen with a lot of these Android running smartwatches.
Aside from that massive battery, we also get a 1.6″ IPS screen. The screen gets bright enough to be seen outdoors. It also supports multi-touch so if you take a picture or if you’re on a website you can zoom in with two fingers.
The watch supports that feature when the screen comes on every time you turn the arm towards yourself. Unfortunately, it takes about 1.5-2 seconds for the screen to come on every single time. So you turn your wrist and then you have to wait up to 2 seconds for the screen to come on. I wish that would have been faster because it is a bit inconvenient.
Kospet Prime comes pre-installed a bunch of watch faces. It is very simple to switch in between watch faces. You hold your finger pressed on the screen and then you can change the watch face. You can also install other watch faces.
Unfortunately, the watch doesn’t support always-on display options so the screen is going to be off most of the time. Whenever you turn the arm toward you – the screen comes on or if you press a button. Other than that the screen is going to stay off at all times.
The build quality isn’t anything spectacular and the watch is mostly made out of plastic. Not to mention that this is probably one of the biggest watches that I’ve seen. That may have to do with the fact that we have a 1.6 inches screen and 1260mAh battery, which is fairly big.
The straps are also made out of rubberized plastic, but I have to say the straps don’t feel that great. You might just buy yourself some newer straps because it’s going to make the watch look better and they’re probably going to be a bit more comfortable.
In the back of the watch, we have a heart rate monitor. Unfortunately, the watch cannot monitor your heart rate 24/7 so every time you want to check your heart rate you have to initiate that manually.
If you remove the metallic plate on the back of the watch you can install a SIM card. The watch supports 4G connectivity and dual-band Wi-Fi. So if you are using the sim card with this watch it can basically replace your smartphone altogether.
On the back, we also have the connectors for the charger. The charger attaches to the back of the watch and charging the watch 0-100% takes about 1h45min.
Kospet Prime has 2 cameras. One of them being a front-facing camera and the watch supports a face unlocking. But I don’t see why anyone would use face unlocking on their watch because the watch is sitting on their wrist 99% of the time. However, you can use that front-facing camera to do video calls.
Connectivity-wise the watch supports 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. That means that you can connect some Bluetooth headphones and then you can listen to music using headphones or make phone calls.
Of course, you can make phone calls directly from the watch. We have a microphone and a speaker. Keep in mind that if you are using this watch connected to your smartphone, you’re not going to be able to make phone calls on it through the phone. But if you have a SIM-card inside of it, then you can make phone calls just as you would from a normal phone.
If you’re using this watch with a SIM-card inside, you can do everything that you would do with the normal phone. If you receive a notification, you can answer to that notification. However, if you are using this watch connected to your smartphone, then you’re going to be able to see the notification but you’re not going to be able to reply. You need to use Kospet Prime as a phone to be able to reply to notifications.
The watch also has access to the Google Play Store and from the Google Play Store, you can install any applications. You can install YouTube, install and play games on it, you can do anything that you would do on a smartphone.
Watching videos on this little screen isn’t ideal because the screen is very small, not to mention the screen is around and most applications aren’t actually designed for round screens. Keep that in mind, you can install most apps available in the Google Play Store but using the apps isn’t going to be the same as using the apps on a phone.
If you’re going to type on this screen, the letters are very small. You may find yourself typing the same letter twice on multiple occasions. So there are some limitations due to the size and a round screen.
The GPS unit inside the watch works great. You can use Google Maps or any other navigation app without any issues. Unfortunately, GPS isn’t used whenever you are doing a fitness activity.
The watch has a few fitness activities built-in. But whenever you are doing those fitness activities, the watch doesn’t actually use the GPS. I’m assuming it doesn’t use it because it would use battery too much. It is unfortunate but if you want GPS tracking for your fitness activities, you’re probably going to have to find different apps for fitness in the Google Play Store.
Conclusion
Kospet Prime is definitely one of the better Android running smartwatches out there. That mostly has to do with a 1260mAh battery because having to charge a watch 2 or 3 times a day isn’t cool. This one can last 1.5 days on one charge. You can actually use this, you can watch a video, answer an email and you’re not going to be afraid that you’re going to be running out of power which happens with most other Android smartwatches.
So if you’re looking for an Android smartwatch, one that runs the full version of Android – Kospet Prime is definitely one that you should consider before all the other ones. Because with the other ones, you just have to charge them over and over throughout the day.
