The most affordable 18:9 Android Smartphone – M-Horse Pure 1

The M-Horse Pure 1 is probably the most affordable smartphone with a 18:9 screen ratio. You can get one for as low as $96 and for that price it offers some impressive value.

Aside from the 5.7″ screen the phone has a metallic frame and a super shiny back that looks great. There are two cameras on the front, another two cameras on the back and a fingerprint scanner.

The fingerprint scanner is placed in the same place as we’ve seen it on the Samsung S8 so it’s not that easy to press when you grab the phone. It could have definitely been placed in a better spot. Whenever you reach it it does work good but it’s not the quickest out there so it takes about a second after pressing it to unlock the screen.

Specs and Performance

The M-Horse Pure 1 is using the entry level MTK6737 CPU that is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Even though we don’t get that much internal storage the phone can take an SD card and that can also be formated as internal storage.

The MTK6737 is a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.3Ghz and it’s not the quickest out there. The Antutu Benchmark score is around 37000 but that is very normal for the MTK6737.

The phone is running Android 7.0 and the software is very well optimized for that Mediatek processor therefore the phone feels quite speedy for most tasks.

The biggest difference that you will notice between this phone and a more powerful one is the time needed to load applications. Considering the low price this should be expected.

Once the apps load they do work great and it should be more than sufficient for light users.

Gaming it’s also possible and most games will do okayish but not great. Of course there are a lot of games available in the Google Play Store and i only got to play a few but don’t expect any crazy gaming performance from this phone and you won’t be disappointed.

Build Quality

The 5.7″ screen has a resolution of 1440×720 and some of you may not be that happy about that. Even like that the screen looks quite good and you won’t exactly be able to see any pixels.

The colours are vibrant and the viewing angles are great but the black could be a bit darker. The doesn’t get that bright either so it may be a bit difficult seeing it in direct sunlight.

Sensitivity wise, i haven’t experienced any problems and the screen can register up to 5 touches at the same time.

The plastic back looks great but it will get scratched easily if you are not careful. Luckily there is a a silicon case in the box and it will help you keep that back shiny longer.

The metallic frame is a bit thick but not exaggerated and it feels great to touch. The power button and the volume keys are sitting on the left side of the phone and they are made out of metal as well.

I wish they buttons would have been placed on the other side of the phone because they would have been easier to press when picking up the phone.

The single speaker it’s sitting at the bottom of the phone next to the microphone and the micro USB charging port. The speaker sounds a bit tiny but that’s very normal these days.

The phone supports OTG and fast charging as well. Charging the phone is done in about 2 hours.

Battery Life

The phone has a rather large 4380mAh non -removable battery but the results that o got from.it aren’t that amazing.

The phone was able to go for about a day and a half in between charges and out of that about 7h of screen on time.

Considering the size of the battery and my previous experience with the M-Horse brand i was expecting a bit more.

Cameras

The phone has 4 cameras, two on the front and two on the back.

On the front we have a 5MP and a 2MP camera and on the back a 8MP and a 2MP Camera. Since we have all these cameras you are probably expecting some great pictures with that cool bokeh effect. Well you would be wrong. The bokeh effect is software generated and since the phone doesn’t have edge detection all pictures taken with the bokeh effect look vey bad.

If you just take pictures with the main front and rear cameras the pictures aren’t bad at all. With plenty of light they are crisp and with accurate colours and better than i was expecting. I have included some sample pictures taken with the front and rear cameras in the videos review that is posted below.

Conclusion

The M-Horse Pure 1 offers amazing value for it’s super low price even though it’s not perfect. If you are on a very tight budget and you are looking for a good looking phone this could be a good choice.
