The best dash cam for Uber, Lyft and Taxis – Vantrue N2 Pro

The Vantrue N2 Pro is one of the few dash cameras available on the market that has two built it cameras. This way it can record outside and inside of the car.

That makes it very useful for anyone that has to deal with passengers. That includes taxi drivers, Uber and Lyft drivers and possibly bus drivers.

Build Quality

The Vantrue N2 Pro is made out some type of rubberized plastic that doesn’t reflect any lights and feels great to touch.

It comes only in black and that makes it less visible from the outside and even from the inside.

It attaches to the windshield with a suction cup and as a separate option you can buy a windshield mount that has a built in GPS. If you get the one with the built in GPS the camera can record your location and speed as well. That could be useful in certain situations but personally i can do without the optional GPS.

There is also a small 1.5″ screen on the back of the camera and that is useful if you need to review some footage on the go or change some settings. The screen turns off when you drive so it doesn’t distract you.

The second camera, the one that points inside the cabin can also be adjusted so it can point in the direction that you want it to.You can find the Vantrue N2 Pro at the following retailers:

In the Box

The camera comes in a rather small box and inside you will find a quick setup guide a warranty card and a user manual. There is also the windshield mount, the cigarette ligher power adapter that has a very long cable and an additional mini USB cable if you want to power the camera from other sources like a power bank.

I was able to use a 20000mAh Aukey power bank to power the camera and it worked without any problems.

Video Quality

The Vantrue N2 Pro is using the Novatek 96660 CPU and the Sony IMX323 image sensor.

The front facing camera has a field of view of 170 degrees and the rear camera has a field of view of 140 degrees.

It can record in 2.5K at 30fps if you record just with the front facing camera or 1080P at 30fps if recording with the front and rear cameras in the same time.

An HDR mode is also available and it will help getting better footage in different driving situations during the day. The daytime recordings are very crisp and detailed during the day with the front ans rear camera. I have included some sample footage in my full review posted below.

Night time recordings aren’t as sharp and detailed as the daytime ones but that is to be expected with pretty much any camera in this price range.

You can still see the licence plates on cars, road signs but there is some more noise in the video recordings.

The rear recording camera is assiated by some infrared LED therefore all the cabin foorage looks very bright and detailed. Once again there are plenty of sample recordings in my full review video that is posted below.

Like most cameras that we see these days the Vantrue N2 Pro is packed with features, some are useful and some you may never use.

The most important one in my opinion is the emergency lock. The camera uses the Gyro sensor inside to determine when the car makes sudden moves and it locks that particular recording so it can be over written by a future recording.

Another feature that could be useful is the parking monitor. In that mode the camera will start recording every time it senses movement. For this feature to work the camera will have to be plugged in at all times. That means that it has to be hard wired to your car’s battery or powered by a powerbank. As i said earlier, it works great with most power banks.

The maximum capacity for the SD card that can be used with this camera is 64GB and the manufacturer recommends formatting the sd card before using it.

I used a cheap Netac 64GB SD card and it worked great. You can find it on Amazon: or Gearbest:

If you drive for a living this camera could help protect you by recording the outside and inside of the vehicle.

Nobody wants to get to the point where they have to prove their innocence thru a video recording but it’s always better to be safe then sorry. This camera is one of those investments that may not seem very useful right away but it could be extremely useful in the near future.
